Half term is a great time to go on holiday as a family. Whether you want to go abroad or stay closer to home, there is a holiday destination to suit you with activities for all ages and tastes.
The south coast of England offers many choices for half term breaks. Take a trip to Cornwall, Devon or Dorset and enjoy fabulous beaches, rolling landscapes and traditional coastal towns. You can even brave the British sea and learn some water sports like surfing, body-boarding or water-skiing. There’s plenty of history to explore too, and natural wonders to make you marvel at the power of nature. And just because the temperature may be dropping, there is no reason why you can’t enjoy a drink or two outside at a country pub or beachside café – just maybe make it a hot chocolate!
Another good choice is to head north into Scotland. There are some great cities to visit, including Edinburgh and Glasgow, as well as more rural getaways. The Scottish lochs are beautiful during Autumn as the leaves change colour – and at Loch Ness, you may even get to see the famous Nessy herself! Whether you want a vibrant city atmosphere or a quieter country break, Scotland has something for the whole family this half term.
If you want to get away from the UK, the perfect place to go is France. It’s easily accessible by ferry, aeroplane or Eurostar, and has a diverse range of things to see and do. Sample authentic French culture in rural regions such as Auvergne, or head to Paris where you can explore world-famous landmarks including the iconic Eiffel Tower. Paris also has another amazing attraction which is ideal for family holidays – Disneyland! If you have kids, there’s nothing quite like the Disney theme parks for bringing magic to life. Meet your favourite characters, watch shows and parades, and get your adrenaline pumping on the Disney rides. You can visit as part of longer Paris holidays, or you can spend your whole break in Disneyland staying in one of their themed hotels.
Of course, you can always go even further afield and grab a bit of last minute sunshine. Destinations such as the Canary Islands, Turkey and Cyprus are great for some warm Autumn weather, and the kids will certainly appreciate that on their half term break. There won’t be much chance of getting a good tan back home until next summer, so heading to warmer climes this October will help set you up for the cold months ahead.
